I got this filter for my new 50 Amp plasma cutter as the water trap filter on the regulator supplied with the machine isn't really up to much. The machine uses a lot of air, so I figured a fair amount of moisture must be getting to the electrode and the cutting tip. I've seen a number of reviews for this filter around and they were all very positive - so for the cost of the filter and the low cost of the replacement cartridges I didn't feel I was taking any risks in buying it. First impressions - this filter is not small. It's a chunky unit, robustly built and feels weighty in the hand. It's held together by a long threaded bolt which passes through the top cap and tightens with a captive T-handle. Above the T-handle is a 19mm nut fitt for using a spanner or socket to tighten it up firmly. The filter element is simple but well made - a bit like a dense toilet roll with a plastic core. Once the filter casing is tightened up, the cartridge is sealed very firmly inside. Where to fit it was a bit of a puzzle initially. It comes with very sturdy mounting brackets and after pondering a bit, I took the cover off my plasma cutter to see how much clearance there was between the cover and the internals. Plenty as it happens, so I worked out the best location, marked up and drilled holes in the side of the cover then bolted the mounting bracket to the case, and then refitted the case to the machine and bolted the filter to the bracket. connecting it all up was a bit of a headscratcher as the filter has ?" NPT female threads (though adapters are supplied). The inlet was easy, screwed in the NPT to BSPT adapter and fitted a female PCL bayonet to connect to my airline. for the outlet, I screwed in the adaptor, then took the regulator off the back of the machine, removed it's bayonet fitting and screwed the regulator directly onto the ?" adaptor.
