As I am starting to get back into welding after a break of quite a number of years, I was struggling to see the area surrounding the weld. After seeing some reviews online and videos on the R-Tech website I thought I would give their True Colour XL helmet a try,. I have used it a couple of times so far and very impressed. Looks to be well made, with a comfortable, padded headgear. With the larger view area visibility is improved and a good range of controls and features on the auto darkening cartridge - including battery test - which are all inside the mask so away from damage. The True Colour has also helped me so 'see' what I am welding and where I am as I re-learn. Welding and also get used to my new R-Tech MIG welded. See how I continue with it - but so far excellent.

I use this for mig welding and find this a great working mask. It is comfortable, has a good size viewing screen and the true colour technology is great. This would be a great mask for anyone who is welding a lot or a little.

New to welding and not a youngster. I had been given another make of helmet and was a bit concerned, as what I could see through this helmet was pretty awful. Decided to buy the R Tec helmet and the difference was chalk and cheese for my eyes. I can actually now see what I am trying to do. . Very happy.

I have found my welding much improved with the better visibility this mask affords. I have now bought my son this one as he was so impressed by mine I was in danger of losing it.

The auto-dimming mask has made welding much easier compared to the older fixed shade mask I was using. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to weld - I use it for welding on my vintage car. The mask is light-weight and has a quality feel to it.

This helmet is an significant improvement on my previous auto-darkening helmet with good features. If I'm being really picky, the outside lens cover has a slight wave so I'll be making my own replacements. Would recommend this helmet though as good value for money.

Needed a new TIG welding helmet and this one looked good. Used it straight away and it is good. Adjustments clearly worked, unlike some helmets I have come across.

Love this helmet - light-weight and has a lot of adjustability for head shape. The auto-dimming feature works really well and is adjustable for sensitivity and shading. The grinding mode works great (a button toggles the dimming feature).

I thought my welding was getting worse and I couldn?t understand why, then my helmet wouldn?t darken so I bought an XL V2 helmet and it?s unbelievable the difference in quality compared to my old one and it was twice the price too. The grind function is great and I can so clearly without lifting the helmet. The viewing area is a lot ** than the old one which is a bonus. Don?t think about it just buy one and thank me later. 👍

I bought this as a replacement for another company?s welding helmet which ** on me, despite being considerably more expensive. The R-Tech helmet is a pleasure to use and represents very good value for money.

*** Self darkening helmet used in steel fabrication work. Works well, has good fitting adjustments and its good that the shade/sensitivity/delay adjustment are inside the helmet and away from accidental movement. Setting up instructions are clear and simple.

Product does what the description said it would. Used for personal/hobby automotive MIG welding in a home garage. Quality seems good, although, only used one other welding mask previously so need to caveat that I have limited comparison experience.

Lovely clear screen and quick response makes for a good helmet, even an experienced friend agreed it was the best he'd used. Only down-side is that it can power down before you realise leading to a slow awakening.

The welding mask is excellent, plenty adjustment and another good quality product from r- tech

Car body reverb and table frames. Haven?t used it enough to recommend. Compared to my old helmet it feels flimsy but I don?t think that will be a problem in use and if you ask for a lightweight product that you can use for hour?s without fatigue you can?t expect it to be made of cast iron can you.

Home use, new gates, car restoration etc. Recommended for professional and DIY very easy to use and very good weld. Looks well made but the amp display is no use and not needed

I am only a hobby welder so it only gets occasional use but so far i am happy with the mask comfortable to wear when you get it set up, much better quality than the cheap auto darkening mask it has replaced their are much cheaper masks available but i have tried that and it did not last long so hopefully with buying a more expensive one it should serve me well time will tell.

I was given advice about welding, when I bought the Mask

The helmets are fine, except for one very dangerous aspect. I bought them for welding (I teach welding, which is why I bought 2 helmets) and NOT for grinding. I was therefore SHOCKED to find that when I first came to use one of them straight out of the box, they were pre-set to "GRINDING" mode. However, I only discovered this when I started to weld, which was NOT GOOD for my eyes!!! When I checked the other new helmet, I also discovered that it was also pre-set in the "GRINDING" mode. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, as any new customer might not realise that they are using a helmet set in the wrong mode and could carry on welding with it set in "GRINDING" mode leading to the eventual permanent damage to their eyes. I have now taped over the "GRINDING/WELDING" switch in both helmets to prevent any pupil accidentally switching the mode to "GRINDING". Otherwise, I and my pupils will forever have to check this switch EVERY time they use a helmet, to check that it is in "WELDING" mode and has not been accidentally left in "GRINDING" mode. Altogether, I cannot think why this "GRINDING/WELDING" mode option should even be considered as a good idea in a helmet, due to the potential danger as I have described.

I am so pleased I purchased this helmet it gives me a full field of vision through the window with all the setting adjustments required on the installed unit and it is easily adjustable for a comfortable fit

It's a cheap welding helmet, so this review is based around value for money. It works.. the bonus is you can change the battery the negative is you can't adjust the shade 'on the fly' because the knob isn't on the outside. Apart from that it's great and performs just as well as many more expensive helmets..

Already have the R-Tech mig 180 so when my current shield packed up I went for the R-Tech XL-V2, great screen, very clear and sharp response. Well worth it!

Brilliant helmet , I like the way you can adjust it to suit the individual.

Used for TIG welding, mainly for serious hobbyist., it is comfortable but takes a little while to achieve the correct adjustment. Occasionally loses shielding when on low amperage work. Most annoyingly when used with direct overhead lighting there is a reflection off the internal glass, I had to rearrange my welding area to compensate. But this is a minor annoyance.

It deserves a SIX star. Brilliant. Superb value for money!!

Nice helmet. I bought the magnifying lens to go with it. I found the lens difficult to get into place it being very tight, but once in place I could see one could move it to where one wanted and it stayed there.. Have now tried it for the first time and it is excellent.

Err I use it whilst welding.... It does what it says - this is my first auto-darkening helmet. I need to get out there and use it. I was surprised by how light it was which I guess will make a lot less tiresome to be wearing whilst welding.

Works exactly as it should. No complaints. But I'm not an experienced welder so I dont have much to compare it to.

First time I've used an Automatic helmet. Chose the middle of the range. Very pleased with the quality and flexibilty of the settings.

Took a bit of setting up and compared to my lads Optrel let?s a lot of light in over the top causing internal reflection of my face on the screen. Ok for hobbyist but suspect it wouldn?t survive a work environment

Having recently retired and started doing a bit more welding I thought I would upgrade my welding helmet. It?s night and day better than the old one the larger viewing area is fantastic, I?m in the process of building a small workshop in my back garden where I?m planning to restore some motorbikes and this will do nicely. I will be updating my welding equipment as well eventually, quite fancy the AC/DC 160 TIG Welder

I bought the welding helmet for use with a mig welder for a Mgb renovation project. I found the helmet works well but the viewing panel steams up between the Adf and the outer lens when you are hot or working in a confined space. You then have to dismantle the lens to remove the steam you can't just wipe it off the top of the lens. So welding helmet works well but can steam up, I wouldn't buy another one.

I use the welding mask for general welding, including gas and TIG, which I use for stainless/bronze/copper metal sculptures. The mask is light, comfortable, responsive, has a nice large, clear screen and was very fairly priced. I am extremely pleased with it and would definately recommend it for general welding duties, where a non-ventilated mask is not required.

R-Tech Automatic Welding Helmet (Speedmaster XL-V2) - I have never used an automatic welding helmet before and this presented no problems. The video on the R-Tech website gives an excellent tutorial on it's breakdown and set up. The design and finish is superb and far too good for workshop use - I jest.

Having just bought a Tig welder, I found my old automatic welding helmet would not stay dark welding at low current. The R-tech helmet wasn't much more expensive than my last one, but has a much larger screen and and has more adjustments available. All I had to do was to change the sensitivity and the problem was solved.

Really clear view through this helmet compared to my cheap Chinese one, only thing to mention, it is thinner plastic but this does make it lighter.

Use this item on a daily basis and it is a great quality item

Im a professional welder,but I would also recommend this to the hobbyist. The quality feels good, but I know I'm going have to take care of it in a workshop environment. I think I would rather the old style torch, I like the pencil grip on fiddly jobs

First time I have used an auto-dimming helmet so needed good sensitivity to work with TIG at low amps plus time delay to avoid being dazzled by white hot metal once the arc is extinguished. This helmet performs superbly in all respects and I wish I had bought it years ago.

I use this helmet every day as I am a fully qualified fabricator/welder.The helmet has a big viewing window that makes it easy to see your work piece, and wants set right reacts very quickly to arc strike,, its light to wear and can be adjusted in every way to give you the greatest comfort well worth the money not to expensive and works very well . An excellent industrial product better than a diy one by miles.

Mig and MMA so much better than my previous and the same cost 15 years later. I've only just started with the R-tech but I feel confident that it will serve me well.

Great optics and sensitivity

A good helmet with wide viewing angle. Simple to use. Much for the money in my opinion.

This is amazing in comparison to my previous mask which had me cussing and blinding whenever the welder came out. I can now see what I'm doing before I start welding and it's a revelation once things get hot.

Hobby welder using stick and MIG. Helmet looks goood, performs well with adjustment of all the key darkning parameters. Head straps are well made and easily adjustable. Two minor issues 1 - Large gap between top of head and top of helmet allows any bright backlight onto screen. 2- Darkness adjustment is not external. You have to take helment off to adjust.

Seemed ok to start, but over the first weekend of use it has flashed me around 5 times. I have now decided to purchase an Optrel helmet and use this one as a spare.

I bought this welding helmet for personal use as I own and work on classic cars although I also have 2 of them at my marine engineering business where we undertake a lot of Mig and Tig work on various materials. Great quality,value for money,Comfy to wear and good features.

A well priced and well featured welding shield that I use pretty much daily for all the types of welding that my business does(ac/dc tig, MMA & now mig) I would recommend this particular shield to most people looking to upgrade or replace an older model that was showing signs of age like mine was. the quality of the product seems to be very good, all the pivot points on the head band seem to be nice and thick so should last. The auto darkening part is very simple to remove for cleaning and the main part of the shield can be used as a clear screen for grinding if needed.

I already have one and was sufficiently impressed to buy a second to let two people view the weld for instruction.

Slightly bulky and not as comfortable as my ESAB warrior

Used for home welding projects, currently rebuilding a GSXR1100 hardtail cafe racer/ bobber and a 1962 MK2 Ford Zodiac. Superb service, great helmet...good visibility and comfortable to use.

Item is very well built and is much better than the cheap ebay helmets!! It has all the functions needed including Grind Mode. 4 sensors stop you from getting flashed & has fantastic adjustablity on both contrast & timing Remember you only get one set of eyes!

I purchased this helmet to replace one which was starting to fail. I have been very impressed with it. The helmet is very comfortable to wear, easy to adjust and the visibility through the lens both before and after darkening is excellent. Having replaceable batteries is a real plus. I have used it for MIG welding and would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody.

Great mask with good visibility and quick reaction

The XL cartridge auto helmet works as advertised, and is an improvement on my old auto helmet cartridge - seems faster to darken, also the view area is bigger. The helmet itself is a bit flexible but at the price you can't expect a fibreglass one. The cartridge removal is easy. Easy to fit new front screens, also there are replacement headbands. This is good because the headband on my old helmet gave up and it would be very hard to find a replacement. Really good value at the price.

Only used once as of this review for ~3hrs MIG welding. The helmet performed well and was comfortable once fitted. The only issue I anticipate is that the front lens seems to scratch easily and is already showing signs of wear, but then it's a consumable part...

Brilliant mask and super sensitive on low setting.

Excellent welding helmet. However, it came with two sets of coloured filter with no hint in the manual as to what they are for. There is a lighter one - is that meant for grinding? And a darker one - for welding? I don't know. I don't want to damage my eyes by using the wrong one.

Having used the helmet for the first time, my first opinion is very good. comfortable to wear, works well. would recommend this product to others.

The last time I welded it was with a pair of goggles, this is somewhat better, after spending a winter evening playing, I mean working with the welder, up the garden non-illuminated path and my night vision was as normal, so no fried retinas....

I use the helmet for TIG welding. On standard settings it just works absolutely fine. I would recommend this product to all TIG welders its really fast acting not like some cheaper brands

After much reading of welding forum sites, I decided to buy this helmet for my son as a birthday present. He absolutely loves it. The numerous features and large viewing area are all a big plus for him. I was not able to pay the price of the "top end" helmets, but when I looked at this one, the specs were nearly identical. Could not recommend enough.
